Prerequisites: There are no prerequisite units Participants
Nominal Duration: Pre course workbook plus 1 day training
Award Issued: Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants,
Course Inclusions: First Aid Manual
Course Content:
  • Assessing an Emergency Situations
  • Airway and breathing management
  • Cardioplumonary resuscitation tehniques (CPR)
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • First Aid Management of the unconscious casualty
  • Medical conditions including cardiac, diabetes, and epilepsy
  • Infection control and first aid for minor wounds
  • Allergic reactions and asthma
  • Control of major external bleeding and shock
  • Management of near drowning
  • Hyperthermia and hypothermia
  • Burns and electric shock
  • Eye and soft tissue injuries
  • Venomous ites and stings
  • Fractures and spinal injuries
  • Head, chest and abdominal injuries
  • Assessment of the sick and injured
  • Recoording vital signs
  • Communicating details of an incident
  • Debriefing and evaluation of response to critical incidents
Assessment Criteria: Practical and Theory Assessment. Progressive assessment throughtou the course, including demonstration of practical skills and
written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Provision of CPR myst be demonstrated on the floor.
Nationally Recognised: The course is nationally recognised training
Legislative Approvals: Conforms to the requirements of Victoria Occupational Heath & Safety Authority First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice, 1995
Legislative Requirements: Legislative approval valid for 3 years from the completion date
Annual CPR updates are recommended.
Notes: Participants are advised to wear comfortable casual clothing.
